For guests arriving early or staying a little longer, we’ve created an Upstate guide featuring some of our favorite towns and local spots.
-
Kingston is our favorite stop on the way home from upstate. We love grabbing lunch at Rosie, a cozy sandwich shop with great window seating, or stopping by Camp Kingston for a bánh mì or pizza bagel.
After lunch, we usually take a stroll down Wall Street and grab pastries from Sweet Maresa’s. If you’re in the mood for a drink, Hotel Kinsley is a great place to stop.
For a scenic walk, the Hudson River Brickyard Trail, at the Hutton Brickyards (a favorite hotel of Parae’s), is a nice hike along the river for non-hikers (like us).
-
This was the very first town we visited when we started venturing upstate, and it still holds a special place for us. Warren Street is incredibly walkable, lined with great shops and food.
We like to park near Rivertown Lodge and wander from there. One of our favorite spots for a drink is The Maker, especially the back bar by the pool. For shopping, we love stopping into Batterby House, grabbing snacks from Talbott & Arding, and picking up pastries and coffee from Kitty’s. You can also get lost in the massive Antique Warehouse.
If you’re looking to bring a bottle of wine back to your hotel, we love Hudson Wine Merchants.
-
We love the scenic drive from The Henson to Woodstock. Tinker Street, the main street, is the perfect place for an afternoon of exploring popping into vintage shops, browsing, and grabbing a souvenir tee to remember the weekend.
There are plenty of great spots for coffee, snacks, and people-watching along the way. We especially love grabbing a slice of cake from Overlook Bakery or a bagel from Moonrise Bagels.
If you’re looking to stay in town, Woodstock Way Hotel is a lovely option right in the heart of it all. Prefer glamping? AutoCamp is nearby, with cozy Airstreams tucked into the woods.
-
Closest to the city, Beacon is a small town with a great art scene. We love visiting Dia:Beacon, a contemporary art museum in old factory space, or heading to Storm King Art Center, a massive outdoor sculpture park and one of our favorite day trips.
If you’re looking for a beautiful place to stay or stop for a drink, The Roundhouse Hotel sits near a small waterfall and is always worth a visit.
-
Tucked away in the Catskills, Accord and Kerhonkson are neighboring peaceful towns full of hidden gems. We love grabbing a slice at Ollie’s Pizza or heading to Westwind Orchard to pick apples (and grab another slice).
If you’re looking to sit down for a nice meal, we love Inness Hotel. Their house beer is a must-try. Don’t forget to stop by their shop on the way out for locally made goods.
There’s also plenty of hiking and beautiful scenery in the area like the High Falls Waterfalls.
